What is the history of The Marlborough's building?

The Marlborough's building began as a Convent in 1901, housing 19 Sisters of Mercy Nuns at its peak. In 1978, it was auctioned, moved in five pieces from Blenheim to its current site, and resurrected as a B&B. In 2016, the building underwent a complete renovation, transforming it into the 10-room Boutique Luxury Hotel it is today, offering a relaxed and elegant space for guests to unwind.

The Marlborough offers 10 luxurious rooms, each uniquely designed to embrace hints of its history combined with its contemporary design. Choose from 6 Premium Rooms (38-40 sqm), 2 Deluxe Rooms (30 sqm), and 2 Queen Rooms (25 sqm). All rooms feature individual air conditioning, ensuite bathrooms with heated floors, and a complimentary minibar stocked with our estate wine, local treats, and beer. Each evening hosted cocktail/canapes are served from 6-7pm for our house guests only.

How would you describe the style of the Hotel?

A mix of contemporary design with hints to its history, such as some stained glass windows, hand carved Kauri (native wood) staircase, high ceilings melding together to create a relaxed elegance that welcomes you on arrival. Modern comfort each their own ensuite and unique in shape due to the history and contemporary decor

The Marlborough offers a range of amenities: 16 acres of gardens and vineyard, petanque, croquet, walking trails through the estate and and outdoor heated swimming pool (heated Oct-Apr). 10 luxury rooms with ensuite bathrooms, multiple relaxing spaces, an in-house guest Chapel Bar, a large outdoor fireplace, complimentary cocktails and canapés each evening, and a complimentary minibar with estate wine and beer. Enjoy dining at our award-winning Harvest restaurant serving an ala carte menu with a focus on produce from our estate and the local region. We also offer daily garden tours, wine appreciation sessions, and personalized service to assist with tours and activities in the region.

Guests at The Marlborough can enjoy a full breakfast each morning and pre-dinner canapés and drinks each evening. Our onsite restaurant, Harvest, has been awarded a Hat in the NZ Cuisine Food Awards for three consecutive years. Dine from our à la carte menu, featuring fresh seasonal produce from our garden and the region. We cater to special requests, so contact us in advance for special celebrations. Harvest is open to both in-house and external guests for dinner—bookings are recommended.

Is your hotel set in a vineyard?

Our boutique luxury hotel is set within 16 acres of beautiful gardens and our estate vineyard, so there is plenty to explore whilst staying with us.  We are the only accommodation provider in the region that is surrounded by vineyards.  You are able to walk through our vineyard at anytime and our estate wine is on offer in our restaurant and in your minibar.  If you would like more information on the vineyard and what makes Marlborough wine renowned we have a 45min wine appreciate event each day for an additional costs.
